Housing Advocates

One of our rental properteries in Trumansburg, NYThroughout our Education Initiative, we are looking for people to be Housing Advocates in their towns, villages, and communities. Housing Advocates are people who recognize a need for increased quality housing in their community for people of all income levels. They are committed to their community and are willing to lend a hand in the effort to create more homes within reach. The time and effort each Housing Advocate dedicates to housing issues varies from person to person.

What can Housing Advocates do?

· Support efforts to increase the number of homes within reach for all members of their community.

·  Voice support for housing initiatives at public hearings and forums, or through letters to their local officials and newspapers.

· Be the first community members to be informed when there is any important housing related news, such as a housing development under consideration in their area.

· Act as consultants to Better Housing and any other organizations or developers before and during the planning process of more homes within reach.

· Share the information they have about a development or planned project with the rest of their community.

· Share any suggestions, doubts, or fears they or the community has about a project with Better Housing.

· Possess information regarding emergency housing solutions, housing options, and services available to those with difficulty procuring or maintaining housing, and make it available to people who need it in the community.
